Company History

KMS was founded as a small consulting firm in the State of Maryland in 1996. As we began, we provided support for a number of logistics research and analysis programs under the Department of Defense, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics Plans and Programs). KMS was certified by the Small Business Administration as an 8(a) business in 2001, and during the ensuing years, KMS also provided support for a number of other Federal Government agencies:

  • Department of Health and Human Services – Technical Assistance Grant Writing; Capacity and Coalition building Workshops for Faith-Based Organizations
  • Department of State – Quality Assurance and Process Improvement; Project Management
  • Department of Transportation – Website Development and Maintenance; Administrative, Finance, and Data Management Support
  • Army Force Management School – Contract Administrative Support for Planning, Programming, and Budgeting
  • Defense Logistics Agency – Administrative Support

In 2006, KMS became a partner with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and was licensed to deliver CMMI courses and conduct appraisals. Since this partnership began, KMS has delivered the Introduction to CMMI courses to more than 500 students and conducted or participated in more than 40 appraisals.

Leadership

As president of KMS Enterprises Inc., Sharonlyne Graves is responsible for all phases of corporate management, business development, and customer engagement. She has more than 40 years of experience in various technical and management positions. She has worked with several Government agencies and private sector companies to design and implement quality programs and management systems.

Ms. Graves began her career as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force after graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in Electrical Engineering. She worked as a Program Engineer in different program offices and attained the rank of Captain. After completing 4 years of service, she went to work in private industry.

Throughout the ensuing years, Mrs. Graves professional path took many turns until she became a Software Quality Assurance Manager. In this role, she was responsible for implementing a process improvement program to help her company obtain a Capability Maturity Model (CMM) rating. This position opened the door to other opportunities that led Mrs. Graves to obtain certifications as a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Instructor and Lead Appraiser.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities, she teaches CMMI classes, works with organizations to help them prepare for appraisals, and leads CMMI appraisals.
