The Building Organizational Capability (BOC) course is a comprehensive, introductory course for those who want to learn about the entire model (core and domain-specific practice areas) and to obtain an overview of the CMMI Performance Solutions ecosystem. This 3-day course covers all 8 domains in the model and will teach you how to use the CMMI model to find the information that you need to implement the practices of the model. At the conclusion of the course, you will be ready to take the Practitioner Exam and will be awarded the Practitioner Certification when you pass the exam.

KMS uses training material that is provided by CMMI Institute to conduct this course, and the training includes individual and group activities, discussions and presentations. The instructor provides “real world” examples to help the learner connect what is heard in the course with the work that is done “back in the office.” KMS usually conducts public virtual courses, but if your organization would like to have a private or “in person” course, contact us.

* Cancellation and Refund Policy – If the course is canceled by KMS, any paid course fees will be fully refunded. If an attendee cancels his/her registration in writing no later than 7 days before the first day of the course, KMS will charge a $150.00 processing fee (per person per course) and refund the remainder of the fees that were paid. No refund will be given if an attendee does not attend a course and/or does not give KMS a written cancellation notice at least 7 days before the first day of the course. If an attendee cannot attend a course, substitution is allowed if KMS is notified in writing at least 3 days before the first day of the course.

CMMI Training Updates
May 1, 2026: Building Organizational Capability (BOC) Course Change
The BOC course changed from a 4-day format to a 3-day format. The entire model of eight domains is covered, but the course has been streamlined to better align training with how certified individuals engage with CMMI today.
June 1, 2026: CMMI Practitioner Certification
After completing the 3-day BOC course, the student will be given a credit to take the CMMI Practitioner Exam. To obtain the CMMI Practitioner Certification, the student must take and pass this exam.
June 1, 2026: CMMI Course Retirement
The Foundations of Capability, Building Development Excellence, and Building Service Excellence courses are being retired as part of a structured transition of the CMMI training and certification portfolio. These courses will no longer be offered as part of the CMMI training.
June 30, 2026: CMMI Associate Exam Retirement
This is the last day that a student can take the CMMI Associate Exam to obtain the CMMI Associate Certification.
