Training

KMS provides CMMI training both virtually and in a face-to-face classroom setting. As shown in the figure, there are two pathways that an individual may choose. Each pathway leads to a CMMI certification and prepares the student to become an appraisal team member (ATM).

Pathway 1 – Building Organizational Capability (BOC) and Practitioner Exam

The BOC class is a comprehensive, introductory course for those who want to learn about the entire V3.0 model (core and domain-specific practice areas) and to obtain an overview of the CMMI Performance Solutions ecosystem. This 4-day class covers all 8 domains in the model and will teach you how to use the CMMI model to find the information that you need to implement the practices of the model. At the conclusion of the class, the student will be ready to take the Practitioner Exam and will be awarded the Practitioner Certification when he/she passes the exam.

Pathway 1 should be chosen if your organization is interested in a domain other than Development or Service.

Pathway 2Foundations of Capability (FOC), Building Development Excellence (BDE), Building Service Excellence (BSE), and Associate Exam

The FOC class is an introductory 2-day class that will teach you how to use the CMMI model and show the business value that can be gained by improving capability. At the conclusion of this class, the student will be ready to take the CMMI Associate exam and will be awarded the CMMI Associate Certification when he/she passes the exam. The FOC is the prerequisite for both of the Building Excellence courses.

The BDE class will teach you how to build capability in developing or engineering products and services. The practice areas that are applicable to development and engineering are covered in this 1-day class. This class should be taken after the FOC class is completed if your organization plans to have a development appraisal.

The BSE class will teach you how to build capability in delivering and managing services. The practice areas that are applicable to services are covered in this 1-day class. This class should be taken after the FOC class is completed if your organization plans to have a service appraisal.

Pathway 2 should be chosen if your organization is interested in only the Development and/or Service domain.

KMS uses training material that is provided by ISACA to conduct these classes, and the training includes individual and group activities, class discussions and presentations. The instructor provides “real world” examples to help the learner connect what is heard in class with the work that is done “back in the office.” KMS usually conducts public virtual classes, but if your organization would like to have a private or “in person” class, contact us.

“Sharon Graves has been an excellent instructor. She helped foster a collaborative work environment which made the class far more engaging than otherwise. She has a vast and in-depth level of understanding of the subject matter that aided her in providing practical examples (many of which may be first hand) to help us draw a connection in the principles being taught and how the could/would be implemented when we return to our offices, projects and programs.”
